PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) TREATMENTS

Hair loss and thinning hair can be a distressing change to go through but it is not one that needs to completely alter your appearance – there are treatment options available that can slow down and even reverse the effects of hair loss.

There are a number of reasons why hair loss occurs in women, including age and genetics. Other factors such as stress and underlying medical conditions can also play a role in this process. In many instances, treating the underlying cause of the hair thinning or loss and reverse the effects of this change.

At The Bay Medispa, we offer RegenLab PRP treatments to patients struggling with thinning hair or hair loss. RegenLab is recognised as the leading patented technology for Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (A-PRP).

PRP treatments are designed to isolate the powerful growth factors in the patient’s own blood, which are then used to regenerate tissue, stimulate stem cells and increase the production of collagen, nutrients and antioxidants.

PRP is a versatile treatment that is also often used for its anti-ageing benefits.

HOW PRP TREATMENTS WORK

Here is an idea of what you can expect during a typical PRP treatment at The Bay Medispa Sydney.

Depending on the area that needs to be treated, one or two small tubes of blood platelets are collected by our qualified cosmetic nurses/physicians with minimal discomfort. The blood is then spun to extract the powerful regenerating growth factors from the patient’s own body.

A numbing cream is to be applied to minimise any discomfort experienced by the patient when the concentrated plasma is injected into the relevant areas of the scalp. The entire treatment won’t take longer than an hour to perform. The number of injections that are required varies from patient to patient.

The PRP injections trigger the body’s natural healing response, resulting in tissue, cell and collagen regeneration which increases in nutrients that are essential for healthy hair growth.

Once the nutrient-rich plasma starts revitalising and rejuvenating the scalp’s tissues, hair density and thickness should start to improve over the course of 2+ months.

What are the key benefits of PRP treatments for hair loss?

The main objective of PRP treatments is to stimulate hair growth in people who aren’t responding to other forms of treatment. For example, there are some patients who don’t respond to medication and aren’t suitable candidates for surgery, this is when PRP is recommended. Since the patient’s own blood is used, there are also no side effects besides some tenderness and swelling.

Who is an ideal candidate for PRP hair treatment?

Women suffering from most types of alopecia or general hair thinning, those looking to prevent further loss and patients considering hair loss surgery can all benefit from PRP hair treatment, provided they are in good health. Treatments are most beneficial if they are started once the first signs of hair thinning start to show. Your medical history will be reviewed and your scalp will be examined during your consultation to determine whether you’re an ideal candidate for this procedure.
